Adam Thorowgood House
From Wally Atkins Family Wiki
The Adam Thorowgood House is a historic brick dwelling located on the Lynnhaven River in present-day Virginia Beach.
According to A Long Time Ago: A History of the Atkins-Paynter and Allied Families, it was built by Adam Thorowgood around 1636. It is cited in family tradition as the oldest brick house in America, though it is more widely recognized as one of the earliest surviving colonial dwellings in Virginia.
The house remains a significant landmark for the Thorowgood-Lawson-Atkins branch, representing the family's deep roots in the Tidewater region.
