1926 Central Virginian Newspaper article on Henson - Flannagan Lumber Company
Wholesale Manufacturers and Dealers, in Lumber Doing Big Business Modern Way.
THE Henson - Flannagan Lumber Company, of Louisa, established four years ago, has grown into one of the County's most important commercial enterprises.
This concern takes the output of 15 or 20 lumber mills, and distributes it all over the country. It is a manufacturer and dealer in all kinds of lumber, pine and oak being a specialty. Railroad and bridge ties constitute one of the big elements of the business, which also deals in pulp wood on a large scale. Everything in lumber can be obtained through this agency, which has had the effect of extending to a great extent the commercial resources of this county.
S. B. Henson and S. H. Flannagan are the members of the firm. Mr. Henson is a native of Louisa, and has been in this business more than 12 years. He owns a large farm of about 227 acres, which is in a good state of cultivation. Mr. Flannagan is a member of the firm of Richardson, Flannagan, & Cobb, wholesale lumber dealers of Richmond, and is one of the best known lumber men of this State.
The Louisa concern has its distribution territory covering a wide radius, and its dealings have always been on a large scale. The members of the firm are prominent and popular and its methods of doing business have always reached the highest standards.
This concern keeps a large number of people employed and is of particular benefit to the lumber interests of this section because it serves as a medium through which a great portion of the county's lumber production finds ready distribution.
The concern has been of unestimable help to many small lumber producers, enabling them to get their products on the market without some of the difficulty which often attends the business of marketing.
Mr. Henson handles the bulk of the firm's active affairs here, and has the confidence of all the people with whom he deals. Fair, square has made the business important and has given it rank among the foremost enterprises of Louisa, which have done a great deal to advance the industrial and commercial prestige of this section.
This concern is well financed, and is a valuable adjunct to the commercial life of Louisa, both the town and County.
